Bundjalung at Splendour in the Grass
posted by: Jenny Fraser 30th July 2009
Louis Walker (picture with the Yidaki), a Bundjalung man, was the one named in the program, yet had also invited a few other Aboriinal performers to participate.
They imparted their local knowledge, including the revelation that: directly behind the festival site was a Bora Ring (traditional initiation site) and that back in the day the lands there were gathering sites for people en masse.
Its comforting to know that the land can still call on people and they answer the call : )
Their performance was not only educational and entertaining, but interactive: teaching crowd members some moves, then off for a Rainbow Serpent style conga dance around the dance site.
