cross art disciples are in-da-house

posted by: Dario Vacirca 28th July 2009

i currently live in quite a nice one - house that is. with a dancer. it is large, stilted, lismoreian and clean. tonight there was dinner for four followed and interwoven with twisting conversation about the latest provocation us cross art disciples were given. which consisted of a blend of thinking through the eyes of another artist writing about ourselves and a personality test filtered through a jungian series of questions. what does this make us do? question. what does it make us feel? protective, open, inqusitive and, well questioning.

we arrived back in our houses after a weekend in byron - at and around the splendour in the grass festival. a bizarre time of walking; looking; playing; dancing; sleeping in a dorm; avoiding drowning; learning about hinduism, contemporary pop art music bubbles, that being blonded is quite fashionable, that age makes a difference when it comes to most things, and that if you dig a nest in the sand and lie down it is quite a special place to view the sunsight (otherwise known as sunset, but we know that to be outdated language). and more.

last week i and fellow cross art disciples were provoked in ways unexpected and for the most part thrilling. brightlights include: re-appropriating dance we knew into a new form and presenting it to peers; experiencing/observing a piece of lismore with my art-discovery partner (in our exercise - an old worker's pub) and - following a "" minute stream of consciousness writing session - concocting together a new art work that we then pitched to the rest of the team; re-imagining the space we were in to hypothetically construct a work that would address missed opportunities for it; silently observing the streets of lismore in a group and upon return to the space creating a work in silence with the same group repsonding to our (collective and personal) observations. and more. the essence of the provocations and our responses was a challenge within the way we work- think, conceive, manufacture, dream, postulate and collaborate - art. placing us in a position to ponder and act upon collaborations and stimulus, prompting us to create work quickly and interrogatively - questioning motives (who are we working for?) and process (how do we get back to our intention) along the way.

most of this was kind of blown sideways through experiencing the actuality of the festival.

however... each stage of this lab is part of a larger structure we won't know until we are at the end (or the next draw of the bow) of the program. in the meantime, the generosity of the minds present in the lab - the constant ones and the flow ins - bind the focus of our workshops and night time engagements with eachother into a rigorous and precious place.

according to the human metrics test i am an ENFP.

according to my fellow artists-in-bunk-beds i snore.

according to the universe it was important my computer died last week.

according to the nature of time i must stop writing. for now.

but according to the nature of dario i cannot find my sunglasses. and there are many brightlights in these parts.
